The origins of the Devotion are linked to a painting known as Our Lady Undoer of knots; it was painted at the 18th century in thanksgiving to Mary for favors received. In the icon, Our Lady is untying the knots on the head of a snake representing the evil that infects our life. The knots are symbols of sins or problems in our lives. Blessed Virgin Mary, through grace, your intercession & by your example, deliver us from evil and untie the knots within us that keep us from uniting ourselves with God.
