DESCRIPTION

Our Lady of Lourdes Statue with St Bernadette imported from Italy.

Our Lady of Lourdes is a title of the Blessed Virgin Mary recalling her apparitions in 1858 in the grotto of Lourdes, France, to Saint Bernadette Soubirous, a 14 year old peasant girl.  The girl was instructed by Our Lady to dig in the ground nearby, from which came a spring with healing properties, active to this day. 

The apparitions were investigated and approved in 1862 by the Catholic Church. A shrine was built there and it remains a popular place of pilgrimage.
